Worship
Worship is central to the life of First United Church, and we gather to worship God every Sunday. We are now having a live online worship to watch on Sundays at 10 am. . Please get a unique Zoom meeting code for each Sunday .
We also worship at special times throughout the year, such as Christmas Eve, Maundy Thursday, and Good Friday (a service that we hold jointly with Rutland United Church and St. Paul’s United Church), and we have occasional services such as a Blue Christmas service and other worship events throughout the year.
Because we do not want to confuse worship with fundraising or make visitors feel uncomfortable, we do not pass an offering plate. Offering boxes are available for those who wish to contribute before or after the worship time.
8:30 am ( Temporarily suspended )
** 8:30 am worship service is an informal gathering that takes place in the Friendship Room (Room 14). We sit in a circle, and things are simple and relaxed. There is still scripture, and a sermon, but we invite people to add comments after the sermon. We also sing a couple of hymns, often accompanied by guitar or piano, and we celebrate communion every Sunday. Everyone is welcome to be a part of this community.
10:00 am ZOOM & FACEBOOK live Worship
The 10:00 online only worship is a celebration of God’s presence in our midst, and a place for all people to watch .
Please get an unique meeting Zoom code for each Sunday so you may watch, The worship will be saved for viewing on our “Latest Sermons” page as well .
Our adult and children’s choir often sing, and once a month our Bell Choir, the Alleluia Ringers, performs. We have several congregational hymns, usually accompanied by piano and/or organ, and drums. There is a time with children (called the “Word for All Ages” because it really includes everyone) and a sermon. Communion is celebrated roughly every 6 weeks.
Everyone is welcome – from a week old to a hundred and beyond! Children and adults worship together for approximately the first 20 minutes of the service, and then children are invited to go to Sunday School although they are welcome to stay in worship if they would prefer. No one minds an occasional cry, or comment, or wiggly child – we are all part of the family of God! We also have the opportunity to worship all together about 7 times a year when we have intergenerational worship. On these Sundays children remain in the worship service, which is a bit shorter than usual and full of drama, music, and movement to keep their interest.
